Tribal Tours GODDESS OF THE FOREST (Tribal) Orissa is one of the States in India, which can boast of a vast tribal population belonging to diverse races and culture. It has the second largest concentration of Tribals and constitutes an impressive 23 percent of the total population of the state. In the last few decades the veil has been ripped of the Tribal heart and of Orissa. Ethnic curio seekers, Anthropologists, Sociologists and Missionaries-they have all from time to time tried to penetrate the mystery surrounding the tribes of Orissa. Of these Tribes, the most numerous are the Kondh, the Paraja, the Gadabas, Koya and the famous Bonda tribes. Each of these tribes is marked for its own culture. Tour to hill Tribes with Car/Coach and guide can be extremely interesting. The scenery is magnificent, the villages and hamlets are fascinating. The tribes are quite friendly. It is very interesting to watch different colorful weekly markets. Tour to the tribe can be organised with proper planning. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE TRIP: Best time Oct. To March (Tour can be organised in April, but temperature will be more) Tour can be organised from 4 days to 10 days or more as required by the tourist. We always recommend minimum 5 days, as has to cover long distance during the tour, One Govt. approved guide for the whole trip. The general Entry/Exit point will be Bhubaneswar, Vizag will be the alternative point. Bhubaneswar/Vizag can be the Entry/Exit point. We can organise both Hotel/Village stay and both combined, depending upon the programme. Village stay can only be organised with less tourists. Hotels in the Tribal areas are small nice, clean and attached bath. Toilets are mixed Indian and European Style. It is always advisable to reduce the strength in case of group. We recommend 10 maximum for smooth and nice visit. Car/Jeep will be quicker and comfortable for the trip. Most of the Hotels provide good food with different style. We also carry with us foodstuff linen and other necessary materials with us. As this is a special interest tour guest should be flexible and the guide has liberty to change the program with best and suitable alternatives. Rest guide will help you in taking photographs. SPECIAL TRIBAL TOUR ITINERARY-1 Day-01, Monday BHUBANESWAR-BALIGUDA After Breakfast Proceed to Baliguda enroute visiting some typical Orissan villages, Picnic Lunch on the way. A drive in evening & Check-in to Hotel Santosh. Dinner and O/N. Distance-300 KMs, Driving Time-07 Hrs + Visit Day-02, Tuesday BALIGUDA-BELGHAR-RAYAGADA Early morning after breakfast proceed to Belghar to visit trek into the villages of Kutia Kondh Tribes inside the forest and mountains. The Kondhs were once famous in the history for their Human Sacrifice. The Kondhs are very simple, frank and they are very hospitable. Their height is average standard. They are healthy, strong. They are very jolly and do not think of future like. After visiting them picnic lunch will provide and proceed to Rayagada. Dinner and O/N at Hotel Swagath/Jyoti Mahal. Distance-200 KMs, Driving Time-4/0 HRs+Visit Day-03, Wednesday RAYAGADA-CHATIKONA-KORAPUT-JAIPORE (Must be a Wednesday) After breakfast drive down to Chatikona to watch the interesting colorful weekly market of Dongaria Kondh Tribes. This tribe is one of most primitive tribe of the Kondh’s they live in the high slopes of the Niyamagiri Hills. These people are horticulturists. They grow of fruits like Orange. Pineapple, Banana Etc. The male people are using earring. Nose-ring and keep their hair as woman. Later proceed to Jeypore enroute visit some villages of Paroja tribes and lunch will be provide on the way and check in hotel Madhumati/Hallo Jeypore. Distance-240 KMs, Driving Time-06 Hrs + Visit Day-04, Thursday JEYPORE-ANKADELI-LAMPTAPUT-JEYPORE After breakfast proceed to Ankadeli to visit the famous Bonda tribes who comes once every l; week for their weekly market. It is a unique opportunity ton see such a colorful concentration of typical tribals of at one place. Most interesting is to watch the Bonda woman in their colourful Jewellaries and marketing commodities. Later proceed to Lampatput, Lampatput and the near by villages are famous for another interesting and primitive tribes of Orissa is the Gadaba. They are one of the early settlers of this country and trace their origin to the time of Ramayana. Your can also watch the famous and beautiful dance of this tribe the Demsa. Return to Hotel O/N. Distance-180 KMs, Driving Time-4 HRs+Visit Day-05, Friday JEYPORE-KUNDULI-NANDAPUR-JEYPORE Morning proceed to Kunduli weekly market. It is the biggest market of the tribal area where you will find the main concentration of the beautiful Sana Paroja & Mali tribes. Later proceed to some of villages to watch the beautiful village life etc. & we will make you small trekking inside the beautiful valley of Nandpur. Evening return to Hotel O/N. Distance-200 KMs, Driving Time-5 Mt. + Visit. Day-6 TAPTAPANI JEYPORE/TAPTAPANI Morning proceed to Taptapani enroute visit some Bada Paroja villages. Bada Paraoja is very well dressed with more ornamental in the body. Also visit some Saora Villages. Later drive down to Taptapani. If anywhere nature reveals its enigmatic charisma, it is here in Taptapani, an exotic world of wonder. Enjoy the nature close to your heart and carry the memory years to come. A hot spring which till dates the local habitat use on a mark of Blessing. Arrive evening, check into tourist Bungalow O/N. Distant-300 KMs, Driving Time 8 Hrs visit. Day-7 TAPTAPANI-CHILIKA LAKE-BHUBANESWAR After breakfast drive down to Chilika Lake, the largest brackish Water Lake in the country. In winter Chilika aflutter with thousands of migratory birds as far as from Siberia. Cruise around the lake. Proceed to Bhubaneswar, watch the Salt Production and some interesting south Orissa villages with stopover in a primitive textile village. Distance-240 KMs, Driving Time-5 Hrs + Visit

After B/F proceed Olasingh. The famous textile village. Where one can watch the spinning, reeling processing and weaving in a primitive style. Later proceed to Chilika Lake. The largest brackish water lake in the country. In winter it is a flutter with thousands of migratory birds as far as from Siberia. Continue drive to Taptapani enroute visit some unique south Orissan villages. Tapatapani a beautiful place surrounded by mountain & forest and a sulfur spring. O/N in a Tourist Bungalow. Day-2 RAYAGADA TAPTAPANI-RAYAGADA After B/F drive through the zigzag forest and meeting with the tribal inhabitants the Saora is a special experience. Arrive RAYAGUDA AND PROCEED TO Hotel Swagat. Day-3 JEYPORE RAYAGUDA-CHATIKONA-KORAPUT-JEYPORE (Must be a Wednesday) In the morning proceed to Chatikona to visit the weekly tribal market of the Dongaria Kondh tribes. It is a colourful market and has a large gathering of Dongaria who comes down from the Nilayamgiri Hill. This tribes were famous in history once for their human sacrifice. The ladies are very well ornamented and the typical style of the dress & hairstyle of the man are interesting to watch. Later proceed to Jeypour enroute visit some Landia Paroja tribes & Villages. Arrive evening & checked in to Hotel Madhumatti. Day-4, Thursday JEYPORE-ANKADELI-BAIPARIGUDA-JEYPORE Morning proceed to Ankadeli to visit the most primitive and interesting BONDA Tribe. Who comes once in a week for their weekly market down from the mountain, nearly 15-Km away. If extended for six Days Day-5, Friday Morning proceed to KUNDULI Market.The biggest weekly market of Paraja and Mali tribes. Paraja Tribes and evening drive back to Hotel O/N. Distance-200 KMs, Driving Time-5 Hrs + Visit Day-6, Saturday JEYPORE-VISHAKHAPATNAM After breakfast proceed to Vishakhapatnam enroute visit some beautiful south Indian villages and caves. Distance-250 KMs, Driving Time-8 Hrs + Visit.
Day-1 BHUBANESWAR-CHILKA LAKE-TAPTAPANI (250 KM) Depart Bhubaneswar to Chilka lake enroute visit some villages. Visit the Kalijai Temple inside the lake, the largest salt-water lake of Asia. Day-2 TAPTAPANI-CHATIKANA-JEYPORE (300 KMs) After early B/F, proceed to Chatikana (130 KMs) away to watch the weekly market of Dongaria Kondh. Later drive to Jeypore enroute visits some Paraja tribal villages. (This must be Wednesday) O/N Hotel Madhumati/Apsara Day-3 JEYPORE-ANKADELI-LAMPTAPUT-JEYPORE (Thuesday) Morning proceed to Ankadeli to watch the most interesting weekly market of the Bonda Tribes. Afternoon proceed to watch some Gadaba Tribal villages. You can watch the colorful Gadaba dance back to Hotel.O/N. Day-4 JEYPORE-NANDAPUR-KUNDALI-RAYAGUDA (250 KMs) Morning proceed to Nandpur, to visit some Paraja Sana Villages. Later drive to the biggest weekly market of Mali/Paraja tribes. Continue drive to Rayagada, enroute visit some villages. O/N Hotel Swagat Day-5 RAYAGADA-GOPALPUR ON SE/BHUBANESWAR (230 KMS/400 KMs.) After B/F proceed to Gopalpur on sea or to Bhubaneswar.
DAY-1 Arrive: Vizag Ex-Madras/Hyderabad. Transfer to Hotel at Jeypore 240 KMs. Visit some roadside tribal villages. Overnight at Hotel. Day-2 JEYPORE, KHAIRPUT, LAMPTAPUT/JEYPORE (175 KM) (This must be Sunday/Thursday) After early breakfast proceed to Khairput to visit the most interesting Bonda Tribes, who comes once in week for their weekly market It is an unique opportunity to see such a colorful concentration. The Bonda women with colourful jewelleries and marketing commodities come from the hill on interesting sight to be watched. After visiting Bonda Tribes. Proceed to Jeypore enroute Lamtaput where you can watch the Gadaba Tribes. (Overnight at the Hotel.) Day-03 JEYPORE/LAXMIPUR-RAYAGADA (250 KM/6 HRS+VISIT) After breakfast drive down to visit Paraja Tribes. The Parajas are otherwise called Paroja or Parja and inhabit Koraput district. The name Paraja appears to be derived from the Sanskrit term Parja, a subject. Their tradition traces their original home to Bastar. In Koraput they live with Gadaba, Paik, Mali. The Parajas have a number of totemistic septs as Bagh (Tiger), Kachhim (Tortoise), Bokda (Boat) etc. Killing, harming or eating the totem animal is forbidden and they have certain rites to show respect t their clan totems. Also visit Nandia Paraja a typical Paraja family that can only be seen in an around Laxmipur. Later proceed to Rayagada. Check-in to Hotel. Day-4 RAYAGADA-BALIGUDA (170 KM-4 ½ HRS+ VISIT) After breakfast proceed to Baliguda 170 KMs. the center of Kutia Kandh/Pahadia Kondh.the Kondh’s were once famous in the history for their Human Sacrifice. The Kondhs are very simple frank and naive. They are very hospitable. Their height is of average standard. They are healthy, strong & stout, in spite of their poverty and lack of nourishing food & adequate clothing. They are jolly and do not think for future. Visit their hamlets handicrafts etc and some of their villages. Check-in hotel. Overnight. Day-5 BALIGUDA-BHUBANESWAR (300 KM/7 HRS + VISIT) Depart after breakfast to Bhubaneswar, the Capital of the State Orissa. On the way visit some typical Orissa villages. Picnic lunch enroute. Arrive in the evening at Bhubaneswar. We can extend/reduce the Programme as per the requirement of the clients
